Information on 131 marine habitats around the coasts of Britain and Ireland can be viewed below. The reviews provide information on habitat ecology, distribution, species composition and likely sensitivity to human activities and natural events, and are peer reviewed where possible. Basic reviews are also provided for selected habitats.
The habitats are listed according to the National Habitat Classification scheme, and arranged by 'biotope'. The habitats can be browsed by the 1997 and 2004 versions of the classification.
The information concentrates on habitats, biotope complexes and biotopes that are found within Annex I habitat types in the UK candidate marine SACs, addressed under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan, are nationally rare or scarce, are likely to be sensitive to human activities or natural events, or that provide examples of the diversity of marine habitats in UK waters.
