Sand and gravel seabeds may at first appear sparsely populated with very few inhabitants. Whilst this is true for very mobile, exposed sands. Digging into the sediment will often expose a wealth of different species. Where solid structures lay on the surface, these will also soon be colonised by a variety of creatures. These structures may themselves be formed by structure building creatures.
During the study, 11 different biotopes were identified. These can be explored using our interactive Biotope map.
