Several patches found amongst loose stones and under rocky overhangs in small gullies formed by eroded strata of appx 3-4 feet height; but extremely extensive colonis of great variety of colours encrusting perhaps 30 m stretch at base of deepest gully (10 foot overhanging wall on SW side). At low tide level and a little above and below. (Previous searches earlier in year revealed very few patches). Botryllus schlosseri

One specimen appx 8cm across carapace, partially buried in sand at base of rocky sidewall of pool. Larger specimen appx 10cm across found moving out underwater along sandy floor of gully to incoming tide. Maja squinado

As yesterday, this is to record the species G. CASTANEA, known to be scarce. [IMAGES available]. Very abundant sea slug eggs amongst ascidians along base of high overhanging gully wall. Specimens range in length from appx 15mm to 35mm. [One image shows three together. One individual partly buried in B. schlosseri.] Goniodoris nodosa

At most extreme seaward end of gully, abundant colonies of C. lepadiformis were found, above and below water, intermingled with B. schlosseri and other tunicates. (Only accessible at lowest tides - this 0.7m at Ilfracombe and very flat sea) Clavelina lepadiformis

All on piece of serrated wrack heavily encrusted with sea mat. Abundant eggs also mostly clustered at base of plant. sizes appx 5mm to 13mm. All seen were of speckled form, very well camouflaged against the bryozoan. Polycera quadrilineata
