SPLASH (Special Protection and Local Action for Species and Habitats) Web site now online.
Monday 17th October 2005
SPLASH is a project to provide information on Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) species. Four priority marine species and three priority marine habitats have been selected as the focus of this project. They have been chosen on the basis of current acute threats to the species and habitat, the effects of which cannot at present be predicted.
The overall aims of this project are to provide information on distribution, biology, population structure, and ecology needed to underpin the conservation of those habitats and species detailed on the Web site. These aims will be achieved by the formation of a consortium of research institutes and appropriate university departments assembled to address these problems synergistically.
